"Mr. Lucky" Sold

"Mr. Lucky" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011 • Sold
6x6" oil on museum quality linen panel

The Chinese New Year celebration is coming to an end and this is the "Year of the Rabbit." According to the Chinese the rabbit is a lucky sign. Ah yes... we could all use some of that! There is of course much symbolism associated with rabbits, but leaving all that aside, I just like rabbits. I am remembering the rabbit that children had growing up. Their well fed, black rabbit grew to be so big and fat that its cage sunk like a hammock.

SOLD...Chickerta... "Baby It's Cold Outside!" Portrait of a Dominique Hen

Sold
Chickerta... "Baby It's Cold Outside!" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6" oil on museum quality linen canvas
(unframed)

A friend posted a photo of their family pet chicken on Facebook and I asked if I could have permission to paint it. She and her son, Whitt said that they would be delighted for me to paint a portrait of Chickerta. I think she is quite the model. She even braves a cold, snowy day for a great a pose and perfect expression! What do you think?
The Dominique Chicken is considered the oldest breed of chicken in the United States. (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominique_(chicken).

"White Roses and Eucalyptus" SOLD

SOLD

The painting above on the left was done in Nancy Franke's workshop using the setup on the right.
I seemed to have gotten the roses much cooler and the roses look warmer in the setup photo. Elizabeth Robbins where are you?
Perhaps I will try and paint them again with warmer tones.
Kathy Cousart and Denise Rose did a fabulous painting of these roses too. It is always interesting to see how differently each artist paints the same composition! Still remembering the great fun and learning we all had in Atlanta in Nancy Franke's workshop!

Nancy Franke Workshop... Fantastic!

Can't believe I have been to Atlanta's, Art School of Sandy Springs and I am back from a fast paced, two day, exciting workshop with Nancy Franke. Nancy is quite a dynamo and I put her at the top of my list of outstanding workshop instructors. Here you see Nancy giving her group a brief introduction and overview. Handouts are being distributed and everything is so well organized and explained that there is no need for notetaking.
Nancy did a fabulous demo using her limited palette of ultramarine blue, lemon yellow, cad.
red medium, white and she occasionally uses
alizarin crimson.
Our first exercise was a paper towel painting. Do you see that piece of paper in Nancy's hand? That is a "paper towel brush" or "tool" as Nancy calls it. One piece of paper towel is rolled loosely, then folded in half and twisted about 1 1/2 inches down from the fold. After setting up what we were to paint, we had 10 minutes to complete the paper towel painting. Dynamo Nancy made the rounds several times and like a bee with all its energy, gave us words of encouragement and lots of laughs.
Tomorrow, I will post a painting (unfinished of course) that I worked on in the workshop.

"Happy Pansies" SOLD

"Happy Pansies" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011 -Sold-
6x6" oil on museum quality canvas panel

I enjoy a sparse showing of the pansies in our flower beds all through the winter. Now, however, with a few warm days, they have sprung to life and are just glorious! I just had to go out, pick some and paint them. I nestled these purple and gold pansies against a little Italian pottery pitcher. They are one of my favorite flowers. I hope you enjoy this painting.

by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6" oil on museum quality linen canvas (unframed)

"When I learn something new - and it happens every day - I feel a little more at home in this universe, a little more comfortable in the nest." Bill Moyers

This is certainly true for me on this artist journey. The learning unfolds through the process of painting each new work. It truly is an exciting, challenging journey and I love it! And yes, I am getting more comfortable in my "artist's nest."

"Tea for Two?"

"Tea for Two?" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6" oil on museum quality linen panel
$99.00 (unframed)

These are some of my favorite cup and saucer sets. Actually they might just be my favorite because I like the ostrich design and the colors. The cups are surprisingly thin and light. Also, the handles have an unusual shape. I really enjoy holding these cups and drinking from them.
Oh yes, and my mom gave them to me so that makes them very special also. Hope all who are in the snow and cold areas of the country are staying warm, enjoying their favorite beverage...perhaps from their favorite cup!

"The Greatest Gift"

"The Greatest Gift" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6 oil on museum quality linen panel (unframed)

This painting reminds me of a time when a grade school friend gave me a beautifully wrapped gift. When I opened it, inside was a card with "love" written on it. My friend explained that she wanted to buy me something, but her dad lost his job and she did not have any money to buy me a gift. Of course, I will never forget this gift or this friend and as we all know, the best gifts really are free! "LOVE" pass it on! It is the greatest gift you can ever receive!

"What A Kick!"

"What a Kick!" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6 oil on linen canvas panel (unframed)

Here I am again! Enjoying our snow here while painting this warm, sunny, inviting scene. I suppose you might say that an artist can have the best of many worlds right before them. Now what could be better than that? I am enjoying painting more of the human figure these days.

"Ocoee River Paddlers"

"Ocoee River Paddlers" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
8x10" oil on linen panel (unframed)

The Ocoee River is a premier, scenic whitewater rafting site in Southeastern Tennessee. My husband and I travel the highway along the river each year on our way to the mountains and it is a treat to stop and watch all the rafters and kayakers making their way down river. It seems as though these guys made it through the rough part just fine. Yippee!

"King of the Roost" SOLD

"King of the Roost" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011 - Sold
10x10" oil on 1.5" gallery wrap canvas

It is about time that I painted a rooster. I say that because I have always had a fascination for them. Their fanciful plumes in an endless array of color combinations are really quite beautiful. Perhaps most interesting to me is their feisty personality. When I think about it, I have known some people who have some of this same feistiness. I suppose they get their names like "King of the Roost" honestly. I enjoyed the free flowing, bold brush strokes of the feathers in this painting.

Strolling Taormina

18 x 15" (framed) oil on linen canvas panel

This painting is available at:

I find that one's voyages become continual pleasures long after they are over. Perhaps that is particularly true of the artist who rewinds the images of exquisite sights onto canvas. My visit to the island of Sicily was filled with abounding beauty. In this painting, "Strolling Taormina," I revisited one of Sicily's most lovely towns, Taormina. Its winding, narrow, streets and ancient structures sit high above the deep cerulean blue, Mediterranean waters.
