A MORE THAN BUSY FALL!

A More Than Busy Fall!

I can't believe it is taken me so long to get back to my blog!   But…whew!  I am breathing a little better after a more than busy fall filled with a lot of work and a little bit of travel.  In November, I had three shows to hang all in one week and several commissions to finish.  So there was oodles of painting going on in September and October to get ready for these shows.

I am excited to share with you some of my favorite, recent paintings.  Had such fun painting them all!

Nothing speaks to a painter more than scenes like this in Italy.  Capturing the effect of light with paint is an exciting challenge for the painter.

White Orchids and Blue Willow

White Orchids and Blue Willow

14x14" oil on linen canvas panel

I have several orchid plants and it is so exciting when those gorgeous blooms burst forth from their little green pods.  The white phalaenopsis orchids are a challenge to paint.  They are delicately luminous and white,  yet they reflect colors and have subtle shadows.  The Blue Willow cup is from my mother's collection.  It is extremely thin porcelain and very old.  This painting is framed in a fabulous wide silver floater frame and available at The Shops of DCI.  If you have not been by The Shops of DCI, you are missing one of Memphis' finest shops where you will find gorgeous furniture, art, and wonderful gifts for the home and a collection of personal gifts.  Gifted designer, Terri Panitz and staff are ready to assist you with all your home design needs.

Mooo...orning

Mooo...ornin'   SOLD

Judy Joy Nocifora

I loved painting this cow!   It was such a gorgeous site early in the morning out in the pasture in Blue Ridge, GA.  I had the pleasure of painting in Blue Ridge, Georgia's Plein Air Paint Out in the Fall of 2012.  It is a fun filled event...relaxed, no pressure... just painting with a great group of painters.  I met some wonderful folks:  Durinda Cheek, Marsha Savage, Lynn Asselta, Carolyn Molder, Candy Crawford, and Barbara Byant, to name a few.  Painting this cow reminded me of the wonderful time I had there in the mountains.  I didn't get to paint in this year's event as I was in Cape Cod, but I hope to get to Blue Ridge, Georgia again sometime to enjoy the beauty of the mountains,  and enjoy the great painter company!

"Journey West"

Judy Joy Nocifora (left) and Carmen Sharpe

Near Flagstaff, Arizona, March 18, 2011

After our first night in Oklahoma City, our second stop on our "Journey West" with my friend and artist pal, Denise Rose, was Albuquerque to visit my sweet friend from high school, Carmen Sharpe. We enjoyed dinner in Old Town Albuquerque and a visit to a gallery to see some of her beautiful artwork.

Friday morning, we continue west through New Mexico, Flagstaff and finally late afternoon we arrive at our destination in Scottsdale, Arizona.

We look forward to studying with Jennifer McChristian at the Scottsdale Arts School all next week. Jennifer is an accomplished, award winning artist and our topic of study is "plein air" painting. We can hardly wait for Monday and the beginning of our workshop! So excited!!

"Tea for Two?"

"Tea for Two?" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6" oil on museum quality linen panel
$99.00 (unframed)

These are some of my favorite cup and saucer sets. Actually they might just be my favorite because I like the ostrich design and the colors. The cups are surprisingly thin and light. Also, the handles have an unusual shape. I really enjoy holding these cups and drinking from them.
Oh yes, and my mom gave them to me so that makes them very special also. Hope all who are in the snow and cold areas of the country are staying warm, enjoying their favorite beverage...perhaps from their favorite cup!

"The Greatest Gift"

"The Greatest Gift" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6 oil on museum quality linen panel (unframed)

This painting reminds me of a time when a grade school friend gave me a beautifully wrapped gift. When I opened it, inside was a card with "love" written on it. My friend explained that she wanted to buy me something, but her dad lost his job and she did not have any money to buy me a gift. Of course, I will never forget this gift or this friend and as we all know, the best gifts really are free! "LOVE" pass it on! It is the greatest gift you can ever receive!

"What A Kick!"

"What a Kick!" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6 oil on linen canvas panel (unframed)

Here I am again! Enjoying our snow here while painting this warm, sunny, inviting scene. I suppose you might say that an artist can have the best of many worlds right before them. Now what could be better than that? I am enjoying painting more of the human figure these days.
Your comments are invited and welcome!

"Ocoee River Paddlers"

"Ocoee River Paddlers" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
8x10" oil on linen panel (unframed)

The Ocoee River is a premier, scenic whitewater rafting site in Southeastern Tennessee. My husband and I travel the highway along the river each year on our way to the mountains and it is a treat to stop and watch all the rafters and kayakers making their way down river. It seems as though these guys made it through the rough part just fine. Yippee!

"Best Pals" SOLD

"Best Pals" by J Joy Nocifora ©2011
6x6" oil on linen panel (unframed)

Some paintings just seem to evoke such a strong emotional response. This one does for me. A beautiful young girl and her dad are spending some quiet time together adrift on the river. Of course the other pal that completes the friendship is their cherished dog, who doesn't want to be left behind.
