Plein Air at Memphis Botanic Garden

There are so many beautiful areas to paint at Memphis Botanic Garden.  Here is  a small plein air that I painted in the shaded area at the Garden's entrance in June.

The Forgotten Coast Plein Air Event 10th Anniversary 2015

This year's Forgotten Coast Plein Air Event was over the top.  Just when I think it can't get any better, the organizers, Joe Taylor and Staff, pull the celebratory 10th anniversary event over the top.  Here's a little study that reminds me of one of my favorite spots to paint in Apalachicola, Florida, during the Forgotten Coast Plein Air Event.

Painting Out of My Comfort Zone!

Grandpa's Hat
12x12" - oil on linen - ©Judy Joy Nocifora

I have not painted many head portraits, but I was so inspired by Jim Richards demo in our Nashville workshop at Warehouse 521, that I thought I would give it a whirl.  It was so much fun, just massing in the big shapes… no drawing… and making this little guy's ruddy checks, lips and eyes come to life!  As a matter of fact, I had so much fun painting "Grandpa's Hat" that I can't wait to get another head portrait started!  Awesome feeling!

Incognito 2014 - Memphis Botanic Gardens Fundraiser

Henrietta II by Judy Joy Nocifora Finds a Home!

2014 INCOGNITO fundraiser for the Botanic Garden was a big success. A huge crowd enjoyed good food, music and wine while having fun trying to outbid others for that special piece of art you've just got to have.

White Orchids and Blue Willow

White Orchids and Blue Willow

14x14" oil on linen canvas panel

I have several orchid plants and it is so exciting when those gorgeous blooms burst forth from their little green pods.  The white phalaenopsis orchids are a challenge to paint.  They are delicately luminous and white,  yet they reflect colors and have subtle shadows.  The Blue Willow cup is from my mother's collection.  It is extremely thin porcelain and very old.  This painting is framed in a fabulous wide silver floater frame and available at The Shops of DCI.  If you have not been by The Shops of DCI, you are missing one of Memphis' finest shops where you will find gorgeous furniture, art, and wonderful gifts for the home and a collection of personal gifts.  Gifted designer, Terri Panitz and staff are ready to assist you with all your home design needs.

Just Beachy - SOLD

Just Beachy is one of the paintings completed "plein air" during and annual, spring painting trip to Apalachicola, Florida.  It is a great ten days painting with friends and hosted by my friend and neighbor, Denise Rose  during Florida's Forgotten Coast Plein Air Event in May.  The whole area along this part of Florida is "eye candy" for an artist.  Some of America's best plein air artist are invited to participate in the event and our group and others who come to paint on The Forgotten Coast,  enjoy being able to watch these artists create their incredible, masterful works!

Mark your calendars and come on down to The Forgotten Coast of Florida in May 2014.  You will love it!  :)

Quang Ho - Amazing!

This photo captures the spirit of Quang Ho so well.

I had the most incredible experience and opportunity this past week, November 15, 16, and 17, 2012 to study with Master Artist of Denver, Colorado, Quang Ho.  I was part of a fun group of artist painting the beautiful fall landscapes in and around Nashville, TN, Leiper's Fork and Franklin, TN
Thank you, Quang Ho, for sharing your genius and your passion with us these past few days.  It was all awesome!
Thanks also to Lori Putnam, for organizing this event and Beverly Evans and Roger Dale Brown for hosting a lovely dinner for
everyone!

The past two or three weeks have been extremely busy.  It seems that all the art shows, charity donations are happening in the months of September, October and November.  All good!  I have been at the easel a lot and that is just where I like to be!
I am looking forward to giving a demonstration and art talk at Elmcroft Assisted Living tomorrow, and I am super excited about finishing painting to donate to my high school reunion and participating in the Fall Plein Air Festival in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Thanks to all who have "Liked" my professional page on Facebook.  This is the site where I will post new paintings, newsy news, and announcements about upcoming drawings for painting giveaways.  You don't want to miss out, so here is the link to my  page: Judy Joy Nocifora Studio Fine Art

Cashier's Garden

Cashier's Garden by Judy Joy Nocfora ©2012

9 x 12 oil on linen canvas panel (unframed)

During a brief visit to Cashier's, North Carolina, I was able to get in a few quick sketches.  There was so much beauty there to paint and it was hard to decide what to sketch!   I painted, "Cashier's Garden," from a sketch of one of the beautiful flower gardens that you find everywhere in Cashier's.  This particular garden with cute birdhouse, was in the heart of the commercial part of Cashier's.  Peter and I enjoyed our trip to these cool refreshing mountains and being with artist friends at Arts on the Green - Plein Air, North Carolina Event.

"Barn at Kirby Farms"

"Barn at Kirby Farms" ©2012 by J Joy Nocifora
8 x 10 oil on linen canvas panel

"Barn at Kirby Farms" ©jjoynocifora - Plein Air Memphis had a paint out this past Saturday. This is a wonderful property just inside Germantown, TN. It has been sold and will probably be developed as commercial property. We are fortunate to have permission to paint here until the end of April. In addition to this barn, there are two others and a Victorian House with oodles of gingerbread trim.

This painting is available for purchase at DPW Gallery
